Car window advertising?

Postby iluvmypet on Sat Jan 10, 2004 7:54 pm

I was wondering if anyone has had much luck with advertising on their vehicles? I just purchased a large window decal for the back window of my mini-van, and can't wait to see if I get much business from it. I heard that it was a good way to spread the word about your business. I guess it makes sense, especially when you're sitting in traffic or just traveling down the road. If this works, I may add some stickers to the sides of my vehicle also (so everyone could see it -- not just someone from behind).

Anyone want to share your experiences, comments??

I've given thought to that myself. I've seen like magnetic signs you can get at the office supply stores that you can make up yourself. I thought I might give that a try before investing $$$ in one professeionally done. These come out looking good, I just dont think I would be able use my logo on it...not sure.

Hello All!,

It is really hard to say how much they really work. i do most of my traveling in a 60 mile radius and only have a few customers in that area, and they were from word of mouth. Although, I guess it can not hurt , especially when building your brand. Also, I have seen where your brand or name needs to been seen an average of 8 TIMES before a customer even thinks of purchasing from your business!

I figure it can't hurt. No one has ever said, when I ask how they heard of me, "oh...I saw your car." But I have had one lady write down my info as I was getting into the car. So I got out and talked to her a bit.

Bumper stickers, car signs, window advertising...are all like ads that you put in the paper, flyers, etc. They're all passive forms of advertising. Passive advertising has normally a very low rate of response, but they're just one way to get the word out about your business. Active advertising, talking to folks directly, handing business cards directly to people, all have higher rates of response. Why? It's personal--people get to see you, get to know you, and the trust factor is higher. :D

Both types of advertising are good in their own ways, but you can't simply rely on passive advertising. I think that's where people that are new to home business have a tough time--they'll get all excited about their business, and instead of actually talking to people, they put up flyers, some business cards, leave catalogs here and there, then go home and wait for the phone to ring...and it doesn't happen. They get discouraged, figure no one wants what they're selling, and they eventually quit. It's kind of like how some folks figure they'll get into a home business and sell to family and friends--to my knowledge, no one has ever built a successful business and made lots of money just from selling to Mom, Dad, Sis and a couple of friends...

Anyhow, a car sign or window advertising can't hurt..

I have had a license plat cover with my company and phone number on my car for about a year and I have had two shows booked from it. One was over a thousand dollars, so it was definitely worth it. :lol2:

If it makes any difference--I've had the magnetic signs on my truck for Watkins now for the past couple of years, and yes, I do get some orders from them... enough to where they've paid for themselves and then some.

I have, on occasion, gone out to my truck from being in a post office or something, to find a person standing out next to my truck with a goofy grin, and they'll say, "Do you sell Watkins?" ...and I always think, in the back of my mind, I'd love to say, "No, I just have the signs on my truck because I thought they were cool...heheh"

Recently, my son and I were out dining at a restaurant, and later, we went to an outlet mall nearby. Some people wandered up to us, and asked me if I was the one who sold Watkins. I said I did, and they said they've been looking for a Watkins associate in the area. The man followed me to my truck, where I gave him a catalog, a few samples, and he told me that he saw us leaving from the restaurant, and thought they'd see if they could find me, after they too had come to the nearby mall. :)
